Founded by the Auxiliary of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1953, Daisy Day is the largest volunteer
fundraising effort benefiting Children’s Hospital and is an annual tradition in the city of Philadelphia. Since its
inception, when volunteers sold daisies on street corners throughout the city, Daisy Day includes the Daisy Day
Luncheon — which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2006 — and the Daisy Day Community Campaign,
which is supported by schools and businesses across the region. To date, Daisy Day has raised more than
$8.5 million for patient care at Children’s Hospital.
Family-centered care is a hallmark of Children’s Hospital and an integral part of the Institution’s patient-care
program. Yet the extensive services that support family-centered care — including social work, child life and
education, case management and family education — are largely uncompensated by medical insurance. Daisy Day
helps fill the gap between the actual cost of providing high-quality care and the amount that families are able to pay.
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is committed to serving every child who needs its care, egardless of the
family’s financial circumstances. Funds raised through Daisy Day help Children’s Hospital honor that promise, in
addition to supporting a network of programs and departments including research, oncology, cardiac care,
neonatology, organ transplantation and many more. Charitable donations help ensurethat doctors and researchers at
Children’s Hospital uphold their reputations as world leaders in pediatric medicine.
The Daisy Day Luncheon is one of the largest daytime fundraising events in the region. This elegant affair attracts a
variety of individual and corporate benefactors who share a commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare. The
event includes a fashion show, a silent auction and raffle, and the opportunity to learn about fascinating medical
advancements that benefit children. In 2006, the Daisy Day Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 25, in the
Grand Ballroom of the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue. The fashion show, sponsored by Saks Fifth
Avenue, will feature the Bill Blass Fall 2006 Collection designed by Michael Vollbracht.David A. Piccoli, M.D.,
chief, Division of astroenterology and Nutrition, and co-director, the Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Pediatric Liver
Center, will give remarks. The proceeds will benefit the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
Volunteers from the Auxiliary of Children’s Hospital lead the organization of the Daisy Day Luncheon. This year,
Nancy A. Wolfson will serve as chair of the event, Aileen and Brian Roberts are honorary co-chairs and Centocor
Inc. is the premier sponsor.
