Pediatric Dentistry Clinic-Mural top
Children waiting
to see a dentist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental
Medicine’s Pediatric Clinic can now enter an
undersea world of imaginary adventures through a new hand-painted mural.
The 17x7 foot mural was developed and donated by Drs. Howard and Kara Fraiman of Bala Cynwyd (both graduates of Penn Dental) in memory of their daughter, Ashley. Penn Dental honored the Fraimans and celebrated this new addition to the Clinic during a dedication ceremony held Thursday, October 15, 2005 in the Clinic’s reception area, where the mural is located.

Vividly colored sea horses, sea turtles and tropical fish of all sorts come to life on the mural, which also features a young girl in a swan-shaped boat flying a flag that reads Ashley’s Angels, the name of the foundation established by the Fraimans in memory of their daughter. Ashley’s Angels has been created to aid special-needs children and their families.

Boyds top
On May 10, 2005 Govberg Jewelers joined with
Boyds to host a second charity shopping evening with Breast Healthy
Institute and Ashley’s
Angels. The event featured a fashion show in the new Boyds women’s
store, sumptuous cuisine by the Brasserie Perrier Café at Boyds
and live music. Boyds and Govberg contributed a portion of each sale
from that evening and the week following to both charities.
Monster Mash 2005 top
Last year at Monster Mash 2005
350 people attended and many more contributed. We could not have done
it without your support. We donated $40,000 to Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia in the name of Ashley Faye Fraiman. Ashley succumbed
to a debilitating disease several years ago and the money we raise
goes to support the Palliative Care unit at CHOP. Palliative care enhances
the quality of life for ill and dying children and their families,
and allows them to make the most of the time they have together. The
money donated the last 2 years has helped the Palliative team at CHOP
offer specialized care to gravely ill children and their families that
ensured them as much comfort as is possible, guidance, both physical
and emotional, at a time that is one of life’s
most difficult. Some examples of palliative care are treatment designed
to reduce suffering and improve the quality of life remaining for the
children and their families; helping families prepare for the possibility
of their child’s death; and empowering them with whatever support
needed to make important and other very difficult decisions about their
child’s care. Coordination of care involving multiple sub-specialists
and 24-hour access every day of the year are also specialized services
given by the palliative care team at CHOP. Over the past three years,
more than 200 children and families have benefited from these services.
This support is often not reimbursed by insurance companies and is
only possible by donations such as Ashley’s Angels and other
private gifts.
